Pennsylvania’s Reentry System
When supervising parolees, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole (board) balances its enforcement functions with problem-solving case management in order to reduce recidivism. Conditions of parole are established to enforce the continuum of care needs, address higher risk issues, and provide structure during the transitional period, assisting the parole agent with management of the parolee.
Prior to release and while on supervision, the board prepares parolees for life in the community by assisting parolees with job training and employment skills, referrals for treatment of mental and/or physical illnesses, referrals to drug and alcohol treatment programs, cognitive behavioral life skills classes and other needs.
The reentry process provides an overview of how the system works to help parolees to succeed.
